(This ceremony needs additions to be complete)
We are gathered here in the presence of God and of this company to join in holy marriage Bride and Groom and to bear witness to the transforming power of love that lies within them both.
Love is a quality of spirit and an attitude of the emotions, but a marriage is a life’s work, a spiritual art form and a love so strong, it is so wonderful and powerful.
Therefore, this is an occasion of both profound joy and great responsibility, and we who partake in it bind ourselves as witnesses to the labor of love that Bride and Groom are undertaking here.
In acknowledgment of this holy purpose and of the power of this occasion, let us pray.
God of Light, who gives us the longing for love and the capability of loving, we give you thanks for Bride and Groom, for their open hearts and willing spirits, and for the example of love that they embody here in our presence.
Be with them on this joyous occasion of showing their love and making their vows; and be with us, their witnesses, that we may all be changed by what is said and witnessed here.
Reading (or other addition): Colossians 3:12-14
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another, and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Jointly in marriage and in love, for the highest use of all, I pronounce you man and wife.
